Setup Guide

Board height, oche distance, and throwing form.

The official measurements

  • Steel-tip board height: 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) to the center of the bullseye
  • Soft-tip board height: 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) — same as steel
  • Steel-tip oche (throw line): 7 ft 9¼ in (237 cm) from the face of the board
  • Soft-tip oche: 8 ft (244 cm) from the face of the board

Basic throwing form

Stand sideways to the board with your dominant foot forward. Your eye, dart tip, and target should line up on the same vertical plane. Hold the dart by its barrel — not the shaft — with a relaxed grip. Pull your throwing arm back to your ear, then release with a smooth forward motion, following through toward the board. The dart should fly, not be pushed.

Come practice. We have dart boards set up in the pool room — come in, grab a board, and work on your throw. Standard pool rates apply and there’s no line.
